Followers Call for Custody of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of the actress are calling for that a man who leaped a barricade and seized the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A widely shared clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the actors walked down a event pathway accompanied by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "released after being taken in", though court documents indicated that he was due to be present on the next day. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed contains videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Followers Express Concern Over Grande's Past Trauma
Numerous fans blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" wrote a further message on Instagram.
Some attendees also criticised guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while some requested online networks to ban Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos shared widely, Grande looked startled when she was touched by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of fans had assembled in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had waited for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be premiered on 21 November, is the sequel of a dual adaptation of the well-known stage production Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected relationship between two distinct witches.
The production itself is a derivative of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing movie of 2024 in the UK, and earned a dozen Oscar nominations, earning several for best costume and production design.
