Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support After PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his position following another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell of this nature with outcomes like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we'll continue to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
