The English Team to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Journey at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium
The England national team will embark on their 2028 European Championship campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they achieve the relatively straightforward passage for a tournament taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not welcomed an Three Lions game since May 2016, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to host the Three Lions for their first match on June 10, 2028.
The team are scheduled to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, if they top the preliminary round, their round of 16 match would be held at St James’ Park. Securing the runner-up spot would mean starting the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Competition Kickoff and Rally
The event was unveiled at an gathering in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. Senior figures from European football’s governing body and the organizing bodies were confronted as they entered the site by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who called for the Israeli team to be removed from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Placards were held up with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators chanted: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Fixture List
The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a game that will involve the Dragons if they secure a place.
Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the championship match, which will be staged on a Sunday in July 2028 with a kick-off time at late afternoon.
It is expected that an afternoon start, which will also be used for European club finals from the upcoming season, will appeal to families and help engage a wider spectrum of viewers.
Host Nations
The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.
The national sides of all four hosts will participate in the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be reserved for any that fail to qualify for Euro 2028 through that route.
Stadiums and Knockout Stage
Aston Villa’s stadium and The North London arena finalize the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals held at the national stadium of each host.
The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was excluded as a host city last year when it was revealed the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on a date in late 2026.
Tournament Vision
“The event will be a competition for the followers and a celebration of everything we value about the game – its emotion and power to foster unity.”
In excess of three million passes, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be made available to supporters.
