The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:
- Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
In short, the playlist lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for players seeking different ways to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Community Input
Despite the support, players have valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
