Citizens have assembled across the country to remember two years since the Hamas-initiated offensive on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the conflict in Gaza.

The incident saw over 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the single most fatal day for the Jewish community since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by initiating a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are seen as accurate by the United Nations and other global organizations.

"Our violent adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the return of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer present a threat to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership delayed state remembrance events until 16 October - after the end of the religious holiday season - but events still occurred around the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the families of people killed in the Hamas incident was held in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was televised across Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was held across the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas negotiating teams met in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of third-party negotiations to discuss the terms of the plan.

A high-ranking delegate knowledgeable about the discussions said that an late session of negotiations began at evening in Egypt.

The source stated the earlier meeting concluded without tangible results, because of conflicting views over the suggested Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not resume fighting after the initial stage of the deal.

He noted that the negotiations are "difficult and have yet to achieve any real breakthrough," but pointed out that intermediaries are striving to narrow the disparities between the both parties.

Critical Matters in Discussions

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the hostages still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance deliveries
  • Post-war governance of the region

Civilian Feeling

In the city's public square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member endured the assault on the gathering, where hundreds were lost their lives and dozens more were captured by Hamas militants - told: "No location seems like home anymore and until all the hostages return none of us will feel safe."

"After we see all home returned, we can breathe once more. Then we can begin to recover," she added.

Outside the prime minister's home in Jerusalem, people congregated to demonstrate their backing for the relatives of the hostages. Israel reports forty-eight remain in confinement in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are believed to be surviving.

Protester one woman explained: "It's necessary do whatever arrangement necessary for the captives to return. But we sincerely need guarantees that we will be safe."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that around the majority of Israelis prefer the hostilities to end in exchange for the liberation of the abducted.

Palestinian Conditions

At the location of the gathering, mourners came together to honor the dead.

From that location, the noise of aerial bombardments and explosions could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where local people said the intense Israeli attacks carried on.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were documented in the morning of Tuesday in the west side Tal al-Hawa, Rimal and locality areas and in the east side area of that sector, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the night comes, the dread comes with it," displaced Gaza City resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike earlier, shared.

"We are terrified of the air strikes. All the night we are resting together, holding each other, notably my little child who puts his face on me throughout the night."

"Every second we look at the reports to see what happened. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be finalized and that the fighting will return to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The medical facility in the urban area reported it had taken in the corpses of half dozen people by the midday, including several who died in an Israeli attack in the south part area.

Nasser hospital in the south region of Khan Younis reported two more victims had been transported. A person was lost his life by Israeli troops while looking for aid to the south, health workers stated.

Gaza's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
