The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
